The following pictures were emailed from Pastor Ed Chan from Ablaze
for Jesus International:
Some pics from the site of the biggest landslide in Benguet. This
is in La Trinidad Valley. The mountain from the top of the road
going to Lamtang or Long Long (which is an alternate route from
La Trinidad to Naguilian Road which also happens to be closed because
of landslides and bridge getting erroded by the heavy flood waters)
came down due to water saturation, crossed over the road and came
down crashing over 30 homes with people sleeping. They are conservatively
estimating 30 people but that remains to be seen because the four
story building that you see in the picture alone had about 14-18
bodies. It was a boarding house for students. I was told first
hand that some barangay officials went around in the evening two
hours before it happened warning people. We don't know how many
listened and left.
One incredible story is that Mr Capuyan arrived and was at
his gate when the montain came crashing down his yard, with his
children
on
the second floor
of his house. He had just enough time to go grab his children
and drive off as the water and mud came rushing right behind him
out
the alley road going into his property.
Right on location is the Puguis Assemblies of God Church which
is being used at the moment for funeral services.
What is needed right now is funds to buy diesel fuel for
the privately owned heavy equipments being used. There are
no government
equipments
here because their equipments are elsewhere being used for
other rescue operations and restoration of roadways. All
four roads
coming into Baguio were closed. But as of today the Kennon
Road was opened
for lite vehicles only.
